Ayushmann Khurrana wants to star in a cricket film

Bollywood actor Ayushmann Khurrana, who has starred in critically-acclaimed films like Article 15, Vicky Donor, Andhadhun among several others; wants to add a film based on cricket to his acting profile.

Khurrana himself is an avid follower of the sport and recently revealed that he used to play junior cricket for Punjab at district levels. Keen to utilize his cricketing skills in front of camera, he said:

“Doing a film on cricket is a part of my bucket-list and I hope it gets fulfilled soon. I think my cricket skills will come really handy whenever such a film happens.”

Interestingly, the 39-year-old is reportedly in line to essay the role of legendary Indian cricketer Sourav Ganguly in his forthcoming Bollywood biopic.

The movie was first announced back in September 2021 when production house Luv Ranjan Films confirmed their collaboration with Ganguly for the project. The former Indian captain himself shared the news on his social media accounts.

Biopics on legendary cricketers like MS Dhoni and Sachin Tendulkar have already exemplified the massive success that the sport’s narrative hold in the Indian film industry. The film “MS Dhoni: The Untold Story”, depicting the life of the former Indian captain, received widespread acclaim for late actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s portrayal of Dhoni, earning both critical acclaim and commercial success at the box office.

Similarly, “Sachin: A Billion Dreams” a documentary-drama capturing the life and journey of batting great Sachin Tendulkar also struck a chord with audiences.

Bollywood and cricket often go hand-in-hand, with actors expressing their passion for the sport and showcasing their enthusiasm through roles depicting cricketing legends, further solidifying the enduring bond between the two realms of entertainment in India.
