Australian captain Pat Cummins led his side to an emphatic World Cup 2023 win by defeating tournament favourites and hosts India in the final, barely a day after vowing to silence a crowd of 1.30 lakh Indian spectators at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.

Capping off a remarkable year for himself, which also includes a historic WTC title and a successful Ashes defence in England, Cummins was recently asked to pick one moment from the 2023 World Cup final that he will carry with himself to his deathbed. Unsurprisingly, the pace maverick picked the aftermath of Virat Kohli’s wicket, which stunned a near-capacity Ahmedabad crowd on the big day.

Pat Cummins says he will cherish Virat Kohli’s wicket

During an interview with The Age, Australia’s World Cup 2023 winning captain Pat Cummins was asked to nominate a memory from the final that he will carry to his deathbed.

The legendary fast bowler said:

“I think the Virat Kohli wicket I was obviously very pumped. We just took a moment of pause, and it was as quiet as a library; 100,000 Indians there, and it was so quiet. I'll savour that moment for a long time.”

Virat Kohli had entered the contest as the leading run-getter of the tournament. With eight fifty-plus scores to his name, the Indian batting veteran added 54 more runs to his World Cup 2023 account and extended his tally to a record World Cup-haul of 765 runs.

Apart from claiming Kohli’s wicket, Pat Cummins also accounted for fellow in-form Indian batter Shreyas Iyer earlier in the innings. The Australian speedster eventually finished his 10-over quota at an expense of just 34 runs with two wickets to his name.

Restricting India’s strong batting line-up to just 240 upfront, Australian opener Travis Head and number five Marnus Labuschagne guided their side past the finishing line with six wickets and seven overs to spare.
