MS Dhoni, famously known as "Thala," is not just admired for his cricketing skills but also for his deep faith and spiritual side. Over the years, he has made frequent visits to the Deori Maa temple near Ranchi, seeking blessings before major tournaments or events.

He has a deep connection with the temple and never misses a chance to offer blessings. Interestingly, his visits have often coincided with significant victories, making these instances almost legendary.

Here are three occasions when MS Dhoni sought blessings at the Deori Maa temple and went on to lift prestigious trophies, establishing his aura as the greatest captain in Indian cricket.

1. 2011 ODI Cricket World Cup

In 2011, India hosted the ICC ODI Cricket World Cup. MS Dhoni was named captain and expectations from the host team were high. Hence, to seek good luck, he landed in Ranchi and paid a visit to Deori Maa temple.

He prayed for the team's victories and God fulfilled his wishes. India won the World Cup, ending a 28-year hiatus. Dhoni turned out to be a hero for his heroic finish off the final ball. Moreover, the former captain visited the temple again to thank Deori Maa for acknowledging his wishes and blessing the team.

2. 2013 ICC Champions Trophy

MS Dhoni visited the Deori Maa temple again in 2013. He offered coconuts and prayed to the divine power. That year, India featured in the ICC Champions Trophy under Dhoni’s leadership. The event, hosted by England, was extremely competitive and the men in blue managed to qualify for the finals after beating Sri Lanka in the semi-finals.

In a nail-biting thriller, India beat England by a small margin of 5 runs to secure a title. This made Dhoni the only captain in cricket history to win all three ICC white-ball trophies (T20 World Cup, ODI World Cup, and Champions Trophy).

3. IPL 2023

Ahead of the IPL 2023 season, MS Dhoni once again paid a visit to the Deori Maa Temple. He took part in a long ritual performed under the guidance of the pundit. Days after his visit, IPL 2023 commenced. Chennai Super Kings, under the leadership of Dhoni, qualified for the finals against Gujarat Titans.

In another thriller game that went on for two days due to adverse weather, CSK beat GT by five wickets to lift their 5th title, equaling the record for the most IPL trophies previously set by Mumbai Indians. The final was a nail-biter, and CSK’s miraculous last-ball win cemented Dhoni’s legacy as one of the greatest leaders in cricket history.
