Rohit Sharma, India’s veteran batter, has left fans amazed with a stunning 10-kilogram weight transformation before his highly-awaited ODI return. The 38-year-old is likely to captain the team for the 3-match ODI series against Australia on October 19, 2025.

The opener was last seen in action playing for India in the Champions Trophy final this year, where he took his team to win the title. But barely a month later, in May, Rohit had announced that he was quitting Test cricket.

Rohit Sharma unveils his leaner, fitter self

Over the past few months, Rohit Sharma has been training intensively to regain peak fitness and form.

A glimpse of his new look was shared by former India batting coach and close friend Abhishek Nayar, who posted a photo from a training session in Mumbai with the caption: “10,000 grams later, we keep pushing.”

Fans were quick to notice the noticeable difference in Rohit’s physique, praising his dedication and hard work.

Ahead of the Australia ODI series, Rohit also completed all mandatory pre-season fitness tests at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

Earlier plans for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to play in India A’s ODI series against Australia A in Kanpur did not materialise, but now Rohit is fully ready to return to the international stage, hopefully still as India’s ODI captain.

Abhishek Sharma’s ODI entry to jeopardise Rohit Sharma

India’s rising star Abhishek Sharma is reportedly under consideration for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia. The left-handed batter has impressed selectors with 248 runs in 5 Asia Cup T20I matches at a strike rate of 206.67, while also contributing as a part-time off-spinner.

With his all-round abilities, Sharma could be a backup or even a potential replacement in the ODI lineup, raising questions over veteran Rohit Sharma’s spot and possibly affecting Yashasvi Jaiswal’s chances ahead of India’s long-term plans for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
