Temba Bavuma has been ruled out of the series against India, with Zubayr Hamza replacing him in the squad for the final Test to be played in at Cape Town from January 3.

Bavuma strained his left hamstring while chasing the ball towards the boundary in the 1st innings. He walked off with the support staff of the South African team and didn't return for the remainder of the match.

Later in the day, it was revealed that the 33-year-old underwent scans, and his availability for the game remains uncertain. Bavuma refrained from batting, with the team management citing concerns about the potential risks.

In his absence, Dean Elgar led the team and guided them to a convincing victory by an inning and 32 runs. Meanwhile, he has also been appointed as the captain for the final Test.

Captaincy is not new to Elgar, who previously led the Proteas, notably during India's last Test series in South Africa. After trailing 1-0 in 2021-22, the opener showcased leadership on the field, orchestrating a successful comeback with a 2-1 triumph.
