Former Indian cricketer Ambati Rayudu joined the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) in the presence of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy at CM office in Vijayawada on Thursday, December 28.

Deputy CM Narayana Swamy, MP Peddireddy Mithun Reddy, and Jagan Mohan Reddy extended a warm welcome to the ex-cricketer joining the party. A video of the program was shared on the official Twitter handle of YSRCP.

"Famous Indian cricketer Ambati Tirupati Rayudu joined the YSR Congress Party in the presence of Chief Minister Shri YS Jagan at the CM Camp office. Deputy CM Narayana Swamy and MP Peddireddy Mithun Reddy participated in this program.”

Following the conclusion of the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, Ambati Rayudu announced his retirement from all formats of cricket. His cricketing journey also included representing Andhra Pradesh and Hyderabad in domestic matches.

Meanwhile, Rayudu, almost a month after announcing his retirement from cricket, officially announced his second innings in Andhra Pradesh politics. However, he did not reveal which party he was about to join back then.

Here’s what Rayudu had stated:

"I shall soon enter politics in Andhra Pradesh to serve the people. Before that, I have decided to visit different parts of the district to know the people’s pulse and understand their problems.”

The possibility of the former cricketer contesting the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Guntur or Machilipatnam in Andhra Pradesh had been under discussion. Rayudu, however, dismissed any such intentions.
