Chahal To Partner Kuldeep Yadav In ODIs After SL Loss? Ex-Gambhir Teammate Urges Indian Coach

Yuzvendra Chahal played a big role in India's success from 2017-2020 in the limtied over cricket, but since then his international career has been a roller-coaster ride, and the man apart from the T20 World Cup squad, has not found a place in the Indian side in recent times.

He is still picking wickets regularly in IPL and in the domestic level, and the calls of his inclusion again in the Indian team have gone loud after India's loss against Sri Lanka in spin-friendly conditions. Aakash Chopra is one of them and he added that Chahal has not been treated fairly by Indian selectors and has been pretty unlucky in missing out of T20 World Cups when he was India's best spinner.

"Personally, if you ask me, I would say play him, please. What is the problem? Earlier, when the World Cup used to start, you used to kick them out. He used to play for India all the time. After that, he used to get dropped just ahead of the World Cup. If he gets picked for the World Cup, then he doesn't get a chance to play there. This time, he got picked in the World Cup, but then they got dropped. Poor guy has done nothing wrong. In my opinion, he has that skill."

Yuzvendra Chahal - A Wicket-Taker!

The former Indian opener also added that Yuzvendra Chahal has the skills to pick wickets in middle overs, when the batter is not taking risk and mentioned that Chahal's combination with Kuldeep would help India's cause.

"And skill is needed. We have also seen this in Sri Lanka. When middle overs come, you need wicket-taking ability. Otherwise, if the start is good, you get 3-4-5 wickets. If the opposing team decides that we don't want to play bad shots, we don't want to lose a wicket, then how will you take a wicket?  Then you need a bit more skill. And that skill, Kuldeep Yadav, and Yuzi Chahal have a bit more skill compared to the finger spinners. So, I am going with Yuzi Chahal. Don't close the door on him. Please keep them together. And play them. He is good. I feel he is very good."

India are next slated to play Test series against Bangladesh in September, while in the limited overs format, India have only three ODIs remaining before the Champions Trophy 2025.
