‘You Carry Our Hopes & Dreams...,’ Shikhar Dhawan’s Touching Post Before World Cup

Last Tuesday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced India’s 15-member squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup, scheduled to get underway on October 5 in their own backyard. The announcement confirmed that Shikhar Dhawan, a stalwart of India's in the marquee competitions over the last decade or so, was not included in the roster.

Instead, the Men in Blue decided to stick with Shubman Gill and make Ishan Kishan a backup for the top of the order. The team's captain and innings-opener, Rohit Sharma, will continue to play as usual.

The BCCI’s decision was expected to be honest. Gill has been playing regularly in the ODIs for some time now, while Dhawan’s last ODI was back in December 2022, against Bangladesh in Chattogram. While many players created cryptic posts, Dhawan displayed class by posting a heartwarming message on X.com.

In the post, Dhawan, 37, emphasized how much a World Cup trophy means to tens of thousands of passionate Indian cricket fans. With the prayers and support of 1.5 billion people, he urged the Men in Blue to go "all out."

Shikhar Dhawan's recent post on X.com melts Indian fans' hearts

India's World Cup journey will begin on October 8, against Australia. The showpiece tournament will have a final on November 19, at Narendra Modi Stadium.
