The world's greatest all-rounder for the last decade or so in white-ball cricket, Shakib Al Hasan, proved on Wednesday that he's not finished yet. The 36-year-old scored a magnificent half-century for Bangladesh in a crucial Asia Cup 2023 tie against Pakistan, that too in their own backyard at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.

With the help of seven gorgeous fours, Shakib Al Hasan batted fluently for 57 balls and scored 53 runs before holing out to Fakhar Zaman off Faheem Ashraf in the 30th over of Bangladesh's innings.

Within the first 10 overs of the day, Bangladesh had lost ground and were at 47/4. Then Shakib took charge, leading by example alongside another veteran Mushfiqur Rahim, who supported him ably to rebuild the innings. The pair forged an impressive 100-run partnership for the fifth wicket before Shakib returned to the pavilion just after hitting 54th ODI half-century.

Soon after Shakib's milestone, Mushfiqur notched his 46th ODI, taking 71 balls to get there. However, with the departure of Shakib, Bangladesh seemed to be on the back foot on a track where batters go berserk left, right, and centre.

At the time of writing, Bangladesh are batting on 178/6 in 33.3 overs, with Mushfiqur Rahim and Afif Hossain in the middle, batting on 62* and 2* respectively.
