Yashasvi Jaiswal burst onto the Test cricket scene with a debut that dreams are made of. In 2023, the young Indian batter made his Test debut, scoring a century in his very first innings. His remarkable composure and ability to anchor the innings immediately cemented his place in India's Test squad. Jaiswal’s bat has since spoken for itself, making him one of the key figures in India's red-ball cricket strategy.

Jaiswal Chases A Major Milestone In The World Test Championship

As the India-Bangladesh Test series looms, beginning on September 19 in Chennai, all eyes are on Jaiswal. The talented batter is on the brink of a significant milestone in the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) cycle (2023-25). Jaiswal, in his current blazing form, has already amassed 1,028 runs in this WTC cycle and needs just 132 more runs to break a notable Indian record. If he scores those runs, he will surpass former Indian captain Ajinkya Rahane’s tally of 1,159 runs, set during the 2019-21 WTC cycle, and become the Indian batter with the most runs in a single WTC edition.

What makes this achievement even more remarkable is that Jaiswal is only the third Indian batter to score over 1,000 runs in a single WTC cycle, joining the ranks of Mumbai cricket icons Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane.

Jaiswal On the Verge of a Six-Hitting Record

Jaiswal’s dominance isn’t limited to building innings. The 22-year-old batter is also nearing another major record, this time for the most sixes in a calendar year in Test cricket. With 1,033 runs from 14 matches, Jaiswal has hit numerous boundaries, including 25 sixes. He is just eight sixes away from surpassing the record of 33 sixes, set by New Zealand’s Brendon McCullum in 2014.
