In cricket, there are moments that make you cringe, laugh, and applaud, all at the same time. The second ODI between West Indies and Bangladesh at Warner Park, Basseterre, delivered one such moment on Tuesday.

Evin Lewis Takes a Hit but Smashes Back in Style

West Indies opener Evin Lewis found himself at the receiving end of a nasty blow in the most uncomfortable spot possible, but the southpaw made sure to have the last laugh. It happened on the second ball of the 20th over when Nahid Rana, coming around the wicket, banged one in short.

The ball skidded off the deck and stayed unexpectedly low. Lewis, attempting a pull, misjudged the bounce, and the ball found the most sensitive target on a cricketer—right in the box. The southpaw immediately fell to the ground and grimaced in pain fans held their breath.

Physios swiftly came to rescue the visibly distressed Lewis, while his teammate Roston Chase couldn’t help but chuckle at the unfortunate incident. Cameras caught Chase’s reaction as he was seen laughing. But Evin Lewis got back on his feet soon enough to face the next ball.

Revenge Served Hot and High

A couple of balls later, Lewis exacted sweet revenge. Rana delivered another short ball, but this time Lewis was ready. He unleashed a monstrous pull shot and sent the ball over mid-wicket for a six.

Lewis’ fighting knock didn’t end there. Despite the painful blow, he went on to score 49 off 62 balls, smashing two fours and four sixes. His innings laid a strong foundation for the West Indies' successful chase of Bangladesh’s modest target of 228.

West Indies Cruise to Victory

While Lewis’ innings was crucial, Brandon King stole the show with a brilliant 82, leading the chase with confidence. Keacy Carty chipped in with a solid 45, while Shai Hope (17*) and Sherfane Rutherford (24*) ensured there were no hiccups as the Windies wrapped up the match with seven wickets in hand and over 13 overs to spare.

Earlier in the day, Bangladesh struggled to get going and were bundled out for 227. Mahmudullah was the lone bright spot with 62, but the rest of the lineup crumbled under pressure. Jayden Seales was the wrecker-in-chief for the Windies as he snagged four wickets and keeping the visitors on the back foot throughout.
