Aiden Markram played a pivotal role for South Africa in the WTC final, powering the Proteas to a phenomenal win at the Home of Cricket, Lord's. Despite getting dismissed for a duck in the first innings, Markram made a remarkable comeback in his subsequent outing, slamming a sensational hundred during a high-pressure run chase.
His power-packed 136-run knock propelled South Africa to victory, helping them chase a steep total against Australia's formidable bowling attack.
In his reaction, the veteran South African cricketer thanked the apex cricketing body, expressing his emotions after being crowned as a WTC title winner.
"It is a privilege to receive this award. To contribute to a ICC World Test Championship win for our team and South Africa is something that means a lot to me," Markram said upon winning the award.
"Winning the final at Lord's is a historic moment for South African cricket, and it is something we will all remember forever. This victory was only possible due to the combined efforts of the entire team, with crucial contributions from KG (Kagiso Rabada) and Tembs (Temba Bavuma)," Markram was quoted as saying by ICC.

Meanwhile, West Indies legend Hayley Matthews has won the player of the month award in Women's cricket. The talismanic all-rounder enjoyed stellar success in the T20I series against South African Women. The top-order batter hammered 147 runs at an average of 73.50 and a strike rate of 120.49.
