Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram suggested Babar Azam to concentrate solely on his batting in the Pakistan Super League, stepping away from captaincy responsibilities.

Expressing concern, Akram stated that the captaincy burden adds extra stress to Babar Azam. Notably, the comments from the speedster come weeks after Babar stepped down as Pakistan captain across formats.

Here’s what Wasim Akram told Sportskeeda

“I had a given an idea to Babar Azam a couple of years ago that don’t do captaincy in league cricket. [You’re a] Big player, take your money, play your game, get runs, go home, and then to the next event. Pakistan’s captaincy is alright, but the league brings extra stress without any reason.”

Here, it's worth highlighting that Wasim Akram coached Karachi Kings when Babar Azam was the captain. During the 2022 season, the team secured just one victory in 10 matches under Babar's captaincy.

Babar Azam opted to resign from the captaincy across all formats following Pakistan's lacklustre showing in the 2023 ODI World Cup, where the team finished fifth in the points table, falling short of the top four.

Babar Azam, who left Karachi Kings before the 2023 season of the Pakistan Super League, is set to lead Peshawar Zalmi in the upcoming 2024 season of the tournament.
