The third Test between India and Australia turned out to be an interesting game with Australia taking a bold call of declaring their innings early on the final day. It set the stage for an interesting finish, but rain played spoilsport again and the match ended in a draw with series levelled at 1-1 and two more matches to go.
The draw has also ensured that India keep themselves in the race of the WTC Final, and now have to win the BGT by 3-1 margin to qualify directly for the WTC Final and hope that South Africa win at least one Test against Pakistan in their two-match series.
If India win the series by a 2-1 margin, then they would need Australia and Sri Lanka Test series to level at 1-1 or hope that Sri Lanka win the series by a 1-0 margin. If the Border-Gavaskar Trophy ends with a 2-2 margin, then India need Sri Lanka to beat Australia by 1-0 or 2-0 in their two-match Test Series at home.
India's WTC Qualification Scenarios After Gabba Draw
- Assume SA beat Pak in one of their Test.
- India wins BGT 3-1, they will qualify for WTC final.
- India wins BGT 2-1, SL and Aus ends as 1-1 or SL 1-0.
- BGT ends 2-2, India can qualify if SL win by 1-0 or 2-0 Vs AUS.
The drawn Test has ensured that Australia remain second on the points table with 58.89 points percentage while India are placed third with 55.88 points percentage. South Africa are at the top of the table with 63.33 percentage points and are favourites to qualify for the final with race for the second spot between India and Australia.
