Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka is set to miss his side’s subsequent World Cup 2023 challenge against Australia owing to an injury. The much-awaited contest is set to be played out on October 16 at the BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.

As per reports, Shanaka did not take part in Sri Lanka’s practice sessions in Lucknow ahead of their must-win clash against Australia. It is worth noting that young Sri Lankan speedster Matheesha Pathirana was also ruled out of his side’s next two World Cup 2023 fixtures owing to a shoulder injury.

Dasun Shanaka ruled out of Sri Lanka’s match against Australia

Dasun Shanaka, who blasted a scintillating 68 against South Africa in a high-scoring thriller in Delhi, failed to pile on his batting momentum against Pakistan in Sri Lanka’s following World Cup 2023 match in Hyderabad. The team, already ravaged with multiple injuries and twin defeats in the tournament, is set to cope another blow as captain Shanaka has been ruled out of action from their must-win match against Australia on October 16.

As per reports, the star all-rounder slumped to an injury during one of Sri Lanka’s recent training sessions.

Just a day prior to the massive setback, young Sri Lankan fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana was also ruled out of his side’s two subsequent World Cup 2023 fixtures owing to a shoulder injury. The speedster was taken for scans and the reports revealed that the cricketer is not eligible to be selected in the playing XI for matches against Australia and Netherlands.
