Matheesha Pathirana Ruled Out For 2 Games Due To Injury; Here's Sri Lanka's Playing XI Vs Australia

In a massive setback for Sri Lanka, ace pacer Matheesha Pathirana has been ruled out of the next two World Cup games due to a shoulder injury. Pathirana, who has had tough times in the World Cup, recently sustained a shoulder injury, following which he was taken for scans. The report has revealed a serious injury, leaving the fast bowler out of contention for Sri Lanka's next two fixtures against Australia and the Netherlands.

Sri Lanka, who clinched the title in the ICC World Cup qualifiers in Zimbabwe, have massively underperformed in the main event so far.

After being crushed by South Africa in Delhi, the Lankan Lions lost a high-scoring affair against Pakistan in Hyderabad. So, considering their poor recent form, Pathirana's unavailability is nothing but a headache for the Lankan think tank.

However, the CSK player has been under scrutiny for his recent below-par performances in the tournament. Overall, he has scalped only two wickets at a miserable economy of 9.74. In his absence, Sri Lanka will likely draft Kasun Rajitha or Lahiru Kumara into their playing XI for their next game against Australia in Lucknow.

Sri Lanka's probable playing XI Vs Australia

Pathum Nissanka, Dimuth Karunaratne, Kusal Mendis, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Charith Asalanka, Dhananjaya de Silva, Dasun Shanaka (C), Dunith Wellalage, Dilshan Madushanka, Maheesh Theekshana, Kasun Rajitha/Lahiru Kumara
