The International Cricket Council (ICC) has set a record prize pool for the forthcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. The tournament, while originally set to be hosted by Bangladesh, was reallocated to the UAE owing to prevailing political tensions in the south Asian country.

In lieu of the last-minute adjustment, the ICC also revealed an updated list of fixtures for the entire competition on September 17, i.e., a couple of weeks prior to the launch of the premier ICC T20 event.

ICC announces record prize pool, winners to get THIS amount

The ICC has announced an overall prize pool of US$7,958,080 for the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup, i.e., more than double that of the 2023 edition played out in South Africa. The winners of the upcoming T20 event will walk away with a staggering sum of $2.34 million, thus marking a significant increase from the $1 million awarded to the winners of the previous T20 World Cup.

The runners-up will be receiving $1.17 million, while the two semifinalists will be entitled to $675,000 each. Teams that will finish between fifth and eighth will earn $270,000 each, and the teams occupying the bottom two positions on the table will be rewarded with $135,000 each. The aforementioned allocation of prize money ensures that each of the 10 competing teams will be entitled to significant monetary assistance regardless of their performance.

The tournament will launch on October 3 with a doubleheader at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, where ‘official hosts’ Bangladesh will square off against Scotland first-up before continental rivals Pakistan and Sri Lanka take centerstage later in the evening.

Defending champions Australia will commence their campaign on October 5 by going up against Sri Lanka in Sharjah. Team India will face New Zealand on October 4 in Dubai and their blockbuster showdown against arch-rivals Pakistan will be played on October 6. The two semifinals and the final will be organized between October 17 and October 20.
