Kane Williamson makes headlines once again as he struck another century in county cricket for Middlesex, this time against Gloucestershire on Day 1 of the ongoing 11th round of the County Championship Division Two. The New Zealand great walked in under pressure and once again proved why he is among the modern-day elites.

Williamson Lights Up Rain-Hit Day 1 in Cheltenham

On what looked like another good wicket to bat on, play began late in Cheltenham due to rain in the first session. Middlesex won the toss and chose to bat but had a shaky start. Their second wicket fell just after lunch, leaving them at 54/2 when Williamson walked in calmly.

The Kiwi joined hands with Joshua De Caires, who crafted a composed 58 for his own and stitched a 63-run partnership for the third wicket. Williamson’s class was on full display as he reached his half-century with a sublime off-drive, one that drew applause from both dressing rooms.

He shifted gears after that, growing more aggressive and accelerating smartly. The hundred came soon after Tea, off just 104 balls, an innings comprising 12 boundaries and 2 sixes. Captain Leus du Plooy offered perfect support at the other end as the duo added a 100+ stand before rain returned.

This was Williamson’s second hundred in as many innings for Middlesex in his first season for them, following up his 114 on debut against Northamptonshire last week. It marked his 45th first-class hundred and sixth in county cricket. With the new World Test Championship on the horizon, his red-ball form is a massive boost for New Zealand’s Test hopes.
