Virat Kohli is one of the finest cricketers of this generation and has scored runs in almost all positions he has batted. In India's first T20 World Cup 2024 match against Ireland, he was given the responsibility of opening the innings, and though he could score only one run in the first game against Ireland, Indian management look all set to open with Kohli for the rest of the tournament.

Now, after the first game, the Indian batting coach, Vikram Rathour, has confirmed that India will continue to go with Rishabh Pant at number 3 and has applauded the left-hander for the way he has batted in the practice match and against Ireland. 

Pant scored unbeaten 36 off 26 balls with three fours and two sixes against the Irish boys on a tough track, and his performance has meant that India will persist with Virat Kohli as an opener.

 "Yes, he has been batting really well. The two games he has played, he has looked really good. So yes, at the moment, he is our number three, and it helps that he is the left-hander."

So, it would be interesting to see how Virat Kohli goes about his business against Pakistan on June 9 with the pitch expected to assist pacers. Pakistan are coming into this game with a loss against USA, and their pacers would be itching to wreak havoc on a spicy deck at New York.
