India kicked off the T20 World Cup 2024 campaign with a convincing win against Ireland. Batting first, Ireland was all out for 96 runs. 

India chased down the target in 12.2 overs, with captain Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant playing crucial innings in the victory. Rohit Sharma scored a fifty before getting retiring hurt.

In a game where Virat Kohli failed, Rohit Sharma scored a cautious fifty and achieved a unique record. Rohit Sharma became the first Indian captain to score a fifty in a chasing game in the T20 World Cup. 

Before Rohit Sharma, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli had led India in the World Cup. Dhoni doesn't have an international T20 fifty, while Kohli didn't score a fifty while chasing for India as captain in the T20 World Cup.


Captain Rohit survived injury scare

Rohit Sharma survived a heavy injury scare when he attempted to hit a ball for six, but it struck his elbow instead. Rohit got retired hurt and went back to the dressing room. 

The incident occurred on the first ball of the 10th over. However, it is understood that India's head coach asked Rohit to retire himself out, so that Suryakumar Yadav gets some game time in New York.

After Rohit Sharma retired hurt, Suryakumar Yadav came in, but he got out quickly. However, Rishabh Pant remained calm and comfortably chased down the target. Pant scored 36 not out off 26 balls.

India will face Pakistan on Sunday at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium.
