India had a memorable outing against England last evening, securing a mammoth 150-run victory in the fifth T20I at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Batting first, India posted a whopping total of 247 runs, thanks to a blistering century from Abhishek Sharma. In response, England were bowled out for a paltry 97-run total, losing the game by a huge margin.
Apart from India's clinical victory, an incident that grabbed the limelight was keeper-batter Sanju Samson's injury during the match. After India were put into bat, Samson coped a nasty blow to his finger off Jofra Archer's bowling, as the Indian team physio attended him for a considerable time.
Is Sanju Samson's Finger Injury Serious?
Samson, who got out for 16 runs with the help of one boundary and two sixes, didn't keep wickets, with India replacing him with his fellow Rajasthan Royals teammate Dhruv Jurel behind the stumps in the second innings.
However, Sanju Samson was seen sitting in the dugout and enjoying the game with his teammates in the second half. Had the finger injury been severe, the team management would've taken him for scans immediately after the blow; but no such report has been received as of yet.
Despite getting hit on his finger, Samson continued batting and seemed comfortable during his stay in the middle. Therefore, it's expected that the injury isn't very serious, and it could be a precautionary measure by the Indian team to allow him to rest in the second innings.
Will Sanju Samson Play IPL 2025?
For the unversed, Sanju Samson will play for Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League 2025. In fact, he is the captain of the side and will lead the inaugural champions in the tournament. The IPL 2025 starts on March 21, so technically, there is plenty of time left for the tournament. So, considering Samson's injury status, he is expected to feature in the competition.
Update: Later, it was reported by PTI that Samson has fractured his index finger and he will need at least four to six weeks to recover from it. If he takes more than six-seven weeks to regain fitness, the RR captain might miss a few games in the IPL 2025.
