India will play Bangladesh in a two-match Test series on their home soil. The first match will be played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on September 19.

MA Chidambaram Pitch In Discussion

The 22 yards at Chepauk has lately been discussed for its red soil and the expected extra bounce it will provide in this game. Considering these things, there have been rumours that India might play three pacers in the first Test.

The Indian team has been at the venue and has had practice sessions for the past three days. If these sessions are an indication that India is most likely to go with three spinners and two seamers.

One of these two seamers is going to be Jasprit Bumrah; who will be the other one? Well, a few hints were dropped during India’s latest practice session.

India to play Akash Deep?

In a video released by JioCinema on their website of day three of India’s camp, Akash Deep was seen having a rigorous session alongside Jasprit Bumrah. While Jasprit Bumrah troubled Virat Kohli with his bowling, Akash Deep was seen going past the bat of young Yashasvi Jaiswal.

After the session, Akash Deep and Bumrah also had long conversions with Morne Morkel. Notably, Mohammad Siraj was also involved in these conversations. However, if the time spent with the ball in hand is an indication, then Akash Deep Might be part of the playing XI in the IND vs BAN, 1st Test.

Why prefer Akash Deep over Siraj?

Aksah Deep was called up to the squad after his excellent show in the IND A vs IND B Duleep Trophy 2024 match. He picked up nine wickets in the match and was a key behind his team’s win. Besides, Akash Deep has been in brilliant form lately. He has the rhythm going, which might earn him a place in the playing XI for the first Test.

On the other hand, Mohammad Siraj has not been in the best of forms lately. He has not found the wicket-taking deliveries in his spells. Also, Siraj has not played competitive cricket since the Sri Lanka series about 43 days ago. Rhythm, form and current wicket-taking abilities make Akash Deep a much better candidate for the playing XI of IND vs BAN, 1st Test.
