Wanindu Hasaranga is one of the hottest assets in T20 cricket and is currently playing the 2024 edition of Caribbean Premier League. He is representing St Kitts and Nevis Patriots and has been one of the few players in his team to produce some impactful performances. However, in the 18th match of the season against Barbados Royals, he failed to live upto his billing with the bat and ended up losing his wicket for just 10 when his team needed him to bat deep with more responsibility.
The Sri Lankan walked out to bat with Patriots 49-4 in the eighth over and started off with a positive intent. He smashed a six in his brief stay, but in a bid to counterattack, he ended up losing his wicket to Rahkeem Cornwall. The off-spinner already had two wickets in his kitty and Hasaranga gifted him the third one as well.
It was a tossed up delivery on off and Hasaranga went for a big slog-sweep. He only managed to get a big top-edge though and the ball went high in the air towards the off side. The Royals skipper Rovman Powell got under the ball and grabbed an easy catch as St Kitts and Nevis Patriots were reduced to 61-6.
Cornwall Grabs A Five-Wicket Haul
Cornwall's magic did not stop with Hasaranga's wicket and the big all-rounder grabbed two more wickets to register a stunning five-wicket haul. Cornwall missed out in the last game due to a poor form with the bat, but has now made a memorable comeback with the ball and would be looking to take that confidence into his batting in the second half. As far as Barbados Royals are concerned they are right on top in this match 18, and look all set to seal a playoff spot with a win in their last game at home.
