Wiaan Mulder shattered some huge batting records during South Africa’s monumental first innings against Zimbabwe on Day 2 of the first Test. India Under-19 lost the final youth ODI against England, but managed to claim the series 3-2. In other news, spinner Sai Kishore has joined the Surrey cricket club for the 2025 County Championship Division One.

Capping an eventful day in the world of cricket, here we take a look at five of the biggest cricketing news that emerged out of Monday, July 7.

South Africa On The Brink Of Innings Win By Stumps On Day 2

South Africa extended its overnight score of 465-4 to 626-5d by the end of Lunch break on Day 2 of the second Test in Bulawayo. Interim captain Wiaan Mulder reached a record-shattering 367* from 334 balls before selflessly declaring the innings.

In response, Zimbabwe folded up for just 170 in 43 overs in their first innings to concede a huge 456-run lead to the visitors. Sean Williams top-scored in the innings with his attacking 55-ball 83*, as South Africa’s Prenelan Subrayen (4-42), Wiaan Mulder (2-20) and Codi Yusuf (2-20) ran through the Zimbabwean innings. Being asked to follow on, Zimbabwe reached 51-1 from 16 overs by stumps, with Takudzwanashe Kaitano (34*) and number three Nick Welch (6*) still batting at the crease.

Wiaan Mulder Shatters Records With Epic 367*

South Africa’s stand-in captain Wiaan Mulder mounted 367* from just 334 balls with 49 fours and four sixes against Zimbabwe before declaring the innings on Day 2. The cricketer notched up the highest individual Test score by any South African in history, going past Hashim Amla’s 311*. Moreover, Mulder also listed the fifth highest individual score in Tests overall, joining the likes of Brian Lara, Matthew Hayden and Mahela Jayawardene in an elite list.

The cricketer also smacked the second fastest triple-century in Tests, reaching the landmark figure off 297 balls to fall behind Virender Sehwag’s 278-ball effort.

Ben Mayes, Dawkins Help ENG U19 Win Dead-Rubber

England Under-19 outclassed India Under-19 by seven wickets in 31.1 overs to claim a consolation victory in the fifth Youth ODI match in Worcester. Bowlers Alex French and Ralphie Albert picked up two wickets each to restrict India Under-19 to 210-9 from 50 overs, even though RS Ambrish made 66* off 81 balls for the visitors.

Chasing 211, opener BJ Dawkins and number three Ben Mayes both punched out majestic fifties, while captain Thomas Rew cracked a quick 49* as England Under-19 made it 2-3 to cap the five-match series.

Sai Kishore Joins Surrey For County Championship

Indian left-arm spinner Sai Kishore has penned a two-match deal with the Surrey cricket club for the 2025 County Championship Division One. The 28-year-old will be available to face Yorkshire in Scarborough and Durham in Chester-le-Street later this month.

Sai Kishore recently led the IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans to a huge win in the TNPL 2025 season in Tamil Nadu.

Andre Fletcher Halts Unicorns’ Top Two Ambition

Los Angeles Knight Riders secured a consolation win over San Francisco Unicorns in the final league match of the MLC 2025 season in Lauderhill. Batting first, an explosive 118 off 58 balls from opener Andre Fletcher and another 26-ball 58 from Alex Hales catapulted the Knight Riders to a colossal 243-3 from 19 overs upfront. Sherfane Rutherford at number three also blasted 49 quick runs from just 28 deliveries.

Chasing 245 (DLS method), the Unicorns folded up for 233 to fall 11 runs short of their target. After slipping to 7-3, Sanjay Krishnamurthi bludgeoned 92 runs off just 40 balls. However, a three-wicket haul from Karthik Gattepalli and two wickets each by Shadley van Schalkwyk and Jason Holder helped Knight Riders register just their second win of the season, and kept Unicorns down to third position before the playoffs.
