England Under-19 secured a consolation win over India Under-19 in the fifth Youth ODI to cap their five-match series in style. Captain Thomas Rew led his team from the front after half-centuries from opener BJ Dawkins and unbeaten number three Ben Mayes.

RS Ambrish Anchors India U19 To Some Stability

Batting first, India Under-19 managed to conjure just 210-9 from 50 overs, with brash young opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi taking 42 deliveries to score 33. After slipping to 135-7 at one stage of the game, RS Ambrish composed 66 unbeaten runs off 81 balls with six regal boundaries, and staged a crucial 68-run partnership with Yudhajit Guha.

For England Under-19, Alex French (2-37) and Ralphie Albert (2-24) picked up two wickets each in the innings. Matthew Firbank, Sebastian Morgan, Alex Green and Ekansh Singh also chipped in with a wicket each.

Dawkins, Mayes And Captain Rew Steer ENG To Big Win

Chasing 211, England Under-19 lost opener Joseph Moores for a sluggish five to Deepesh Devendran in just the fourth over of the innings. His opening partner BJ Dawkins and number three Ben Mayes put England back on track with a match-defining 107-run stand for the second wicket.

Both cricketers punched out majestic half-centuries, with Dawkins making 66 off 53 before falling to Naman Pushpak. Mayes remained unbeaten in the innings with his 82* off 76 balls, while captain Thomas Rew led the chase after Rocky Flintoff’s early exit with a speedy 37-ball 49 as England Under-19 cruised to a seven-wicket victory in just 31.1 overs.
