R Ashwin in trouble [Source: AFP Photo]
Chennai Super Kings veteran spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin could land himself in trouble for his remarks on teammate, Dewald Brevis' IPL 2025 contract. A storm occurred when Ashwin revealed that CSK were ready to pay more than Brevis' base price to acquire his services mid-way through the IPL 2025 season.
The comment ignited like a fire, and CSK had to issue an official statement, stating that they signed the Proteas batter without breaking any IPL rules and regulations.
What did Ashwin say about the Brevis deal?
"I will tell you something. About Brevis. He had a great time last IPL with CSK. In fact, a few teams were talking to him. A few teams left him because of the price. When he was supposed to be signed as a replacement, he was supposed to be signed at the base price. But what happens is you talk to the agents and the player will say, if you give me X amount extra, I will come," CSK spinner revealed.
Even though CSK did not break any IPL rules, they released an official statement on how they signed Brevis.
"Chennai Super Kings categorically clarifies that all actions taken by the franchise during the signing process of Dewald Brevis as a Replacement Player during TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 were in complete compliance with the rules and regulations of IPL," CSK's official statement read.
Can CSK punish Ashwin for leaking information?
In the IPL Code of Conduct, no rule states that a player/ or a group of players cannot leak their franchises' personal information on social media. According to the IPL rules, every player must maintain basic professionalism and should have integrity in their actions. Ashwin, violated the rules by revealing team details out.
However, the final decision remains with his franchise - CSK. If the team feels the player has betrayed them, or has leaked an information which was top secret (but well within the rules), then the franchise could punish him. In Ashwin's case, he is likely to be released ahead of the next season.
