Pakistan Shaheens were down and out against Melbourne Renegades Academy in the ongoing Top End T20 Tournament match in Darwin, but Abdul Samad, the hard-hitting batter, smashed a scintillating century and rescued his team from a tricky situation. He reached the landmark in just 56 deliveries, laced with six fours and six sixes.

Samad's brilliant century after Asia Cup 2025 snub

Shaheen's were put into bat, and on a tricky wicket at Darwin, the team lost two wickets for two runs, as the Renegades had the upper hand in the early going. Samad was neglected for the Pakistan Asia Cup squad, and just a day after the team announcement, the explosive batter gave a timely reminder with a fine knock.

Wickets continued to tumble at regular intervals as Samad was stranded at one end. The side lost 4 wickets for 55 runs before the opener took matters into his hands. He shifted the gear and played an ultra-aggressive knock.

It was a one-man show as Samad ended the innings with a score of 110 off 63 balls, while the next best score was 23 by captain Irfan Khan. This assault helped the Shaheens reach a respectable 178/5.

Samad continues his golden run in Top End T20

This is not the first time Samad has played a blinder in the ongoing T20 tournament. In the match against Bangladesh A, Samad tore apart the Tigers' attack, and smashed a whirlwind 56 off 27 balls, as it decimated the Bangladesh bowling lineup, and helped the team to a comfortable win.

Why Samad wasn't selected in Asia Cup squad

He has been brilliant in patches in the domestic tournaments, but Samad is yet to find consistency in his batting. Even when given a chance in the T20I squad, the talented batter failed to deliver the goods, and could only score 66 runs in five matches, with a strike rate of just 113.
