Shadab Khan provided the latest update on his rehabilitation from an injury picked up during the recent National T20 Cup match for Rawalpindi. Playing against Sialkot last Sunday (December 3), the Pakistan spin allrounder twisted his ankle badly and was taken off the field on a teammate's back.

The incident took place after Shadab was trying to save the bowl in the field having delivered two economical overs. The young cricketer unfortunately hurt his ankle after the ball suddenly rose above his foot and left him in excruciating pain.

The injury was so severe at the time that Shadab required the help of one of the fielders to be piggybacked on his way to the dressing room where the team physio and medical staff provided him the necessary treatment.

Shadab Gives Update On Injury Rehab

Shadab has since been under rehab at Lahore's High-Performance Centre, hoping to be fit in time for Pakistan's limited-overs assignment in New Zealand in a five-match T20I series scheduled in January. The cricketer provided the latest update on his injury status and how his rehab has been shaping up during an interaction with 'Cricket Pakistan'.

"When the ball came above my foot, I had an ankle twist. When the ankle twisted, I couldn't even comprehend it for 2-3 minutes because the pain was severe. Then I tried to walk to the sidelines," Shadab said.

"The boundary on the side was a bit short, so I walked out there, but after that, I didn't have the courage to continue walking. Then there was a guy there, so I thought of somehow making it to the dressing room."

Not part of Pakistan's Test squad on board in Australia, Shadab now awaits further clarity on his rehab process to ascertain availability for the New Zealand tour.

"The fitness is improving. The injury is not too major. The report has come, but the doctors haven't told me how much time it will take. As soon as they tell, the rehab will start according to their instructions."

"The injury doesn't seem too prolonged. The physios will assess it and plan accordingly for the New Zealand series," he added.
