Virat Kohli, one of India’s top batsmen, recently announced his retirement from Test cricket, marking the end of an outstanding career in the longest form of the game. His retirement came just days after his teammate, captain Rohit Sharma, made a similar announcement.

Anushka Sharma Pens Heartfelt Note To Virat Kohli

In response to her husband's decision, Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma posted an emotional message on Instagram a few hours after the announcement. Virat announced his retirement on May 12, after playing for 14 years.

"They’ll talk about the records and the milestones — but I’ll remember the tears you never showed, the battles no one saw, and the unwavering love you gave this format of the game. I know how much all this took from you. After every Test series, you came back a little wiser, a little humbler — and watching you evolve through it all has been a privilege."

She added, "Somehow, I always imagined you’d retire international cricket in whites — But you’ve always followed your heart, and so I just want to say my love, you’ve earned every bit of this goodbye ❤️"

Virat Kohli's Illustrious Test Journey Comes To An End

Virat, who made his Test debut in 2011, scored 30 centuries and 9,230 runs in 123 Tests, with an average of 46.85. He will continue to play in one-day internationals. At the age of 36, Kohli had already retired from T20 internationals after India’s victory in the 2022 World Cup in the West Indies.

Kohli’s last Test match ended with India losing a 3-1 series to Australia in January, which also saw India lose the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the first time in 10 years. However, his time as a captain from 2014 to 2022 stands out. Under his leadership, India won 40 out of 68 Test matches, making him the country’s most successful captain in the format.

He is ranked fourth among captains with the most Test victories, behind Graeme Smith, Ricky Ponting, and Steve Waugh.

Notably, Kohli’s final Test match was played in Sydney earlier this year during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, where Australia won the match by six wickets, sealing the series victory.
