Virat Kohli Announces Test Retirement: When Will The G.O.A.T Play Next For India?

On Monday, May 12, Virat Kohli took a bold decision and announced his retirement from Test cricket. The former India captain bid adieu to the traditional format of the game after 14 long years. The decision comes ahead of the crucial five-match Test series against England that starts in June. 

The news has sent shockwaves through out the internet as both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli has retired from the traditional format of the game in a span of a few days. Now with Test retirement, Virat has only made himself available in the fifty-over format and reports suggest that Kohli is now aiming to play the 2027 ODI World Cup. 

Nonetheless, the internet is filled with messages for Virat and the fans are sad that it would now be indeed a long wait for them to see their idol play in the Indian jersey. Meanwhile, this article will look at when will Virat next play for India. 

When Will Kohli Next Play For India?

It is worth noting that India's next ODI series is against Bangladesh right after the England Test series. Notably, India will play three ODIs in Bangladesh from August 17 2025. However, there is no official confirmation regarding the series and it might be postponed or cancelled due to the recent tensions between India and Pakistan. 

In case, the series does not materialise, then Virat Kohli fans would have to wait until October 2025 as India's next ODI series is against Australia away from home and the first match is at Perth on October 19.
