On Wednesday, July 16, the Indian women's team locked horns against the English women's team in the first ODI of the three-match series. The visitors had a perfect start to the tour as Harmanpreet Kaur-led side beat the hosts by four wickets to go 1-0 in the series.
England Women, batting first, put 258 runs on the board, courtesy of fifties from Sophia Dunkley and A D Richards. In reply, India lost Smriti Mandhana early on, but Deepti Sharma and Jemimah Rodrigues were the stars with the bat, and an unbeaten 62 (64) from Sharma sealed the win for the visitors.
Harleen Deol Faces Flak From Fans
Despite the win, India women's batter Harleen Deol caught fans' attention after she got out in the most bizarre way. Notably, on the 4th ball of the 22nd over, Harleen ran for a single, but got lazy as she approached the non-striker's end and forgot to put her bat down. Eventually, the ball hit the stumps, and Deol was caught napping.
It drew a strong reaction from the fans as they heavily criticised the 27-year-old for her lack of awareness, as they believed that it could have been a major turning point in the game had Deepti Sharma not played the fifty-plus runs knock. Here are a few reactions from the fans.
Netizens Slam Harleen Deol For Brain-Fade Moment

Harleen Deol just gave us the most graceful levitating run-out of 2025. Bat in air. Foot in air. Gravity? Optional. Awareness? Missing. India still won tho — Deepti Sharma said: “Main hoon na.”

It is not the first time that an Indian cricketer has had a brain-fade moment on the pitch as India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur too once hogged the internet for a similar effort. Nonetheless, Deol made 27 (44) and would have to prove herself in the upcoming ODI against England on July 19.
