India kicked off their Tri-Nation Women’s ODI Series campaign in style with a dominant nine-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the opening match held in Colombo. The one-sided affair saw young opener Pratika Rawal steal the spotlight with a fluent unbeaten half-century that  marked a significant leap in the ICC Women’s ODI Player Rankings.

Rawal and Deol Lead India’s Charge

Opener Pratika Rawal, playing in only her seventh ODI, produced a composed knock of 50* runs off 62 deliveries. Her performance also earned her 10-place jump in the latest ICC Women’s ODI Batting Rankings, placing her at career-best 47th.

Harleen Deol also played a pivotal role in the chase, anchoring the innings alongside Rawal with an unbeaten 48. Her efforts saw her climb four spots in the rankings, moving up to 49th.

Smriti Mandhana's rating marginally dropped from 738 to 737,  however, she comfortably retained her position at No. 2 in the world, behind South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt.

Athapaththu’s Poor Form, Rana’s Comeback Highlight Rankings Shuffle

Sri Lanka’s captain Chamari Athapaththu endured a poor outing, managing only seven runs. The failure cost her dearly in the rankings, as she dropped from fourth to seventh among ODI batters. Her rating dipped from 688 to 671.

Athapaththu’s struggles extended to the ball as well, with four wicketless overs contributing to her drop from joint seventh to eighth on the all-rounders’ list, led by Australia’s Ash Gardner.

For India, Sneh Rana’s impressive 5-wicket haul against South Africa earned her re-entry into the bowlers rankings. She now sits at 57th on the list, which continues to be topped by England’s Sophie Ecclestone. Renuka Singh Thakur, who missed the match, slipped one place to 20th. Sri Lanka’s Inoka Ranaweera rose two positions in the bowlers rankings, now ranked 25th.
