On Wednesday, July 16, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka locked horns in the third and final T20I of the series at the Premadasa Stadium. The hosts won the toss and opted to bat first. Both teams made two changes to their XIs, but the most notable change for Bangladesh was the omission of Mehidy Hasan Miraz.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz Dropped For Poor Performance

The star Bangladesh all-rounder was not part of the playing XI for this series decider, with both teams having won one match each. Mehidy Hasan Miraz featured in the first two T20Is but failed to impress, scoring just 30 runs and taking two wickets across the games, which resulted in him sitting out for the third T20I.

Litton Das did not provide a reason or justification for dropping Miraz. Bangladesh brought in Mahedi Hasan to replace the 27-year-old. The decision has already paid dividends, as the 30-year-old, playing his first match of the series, picked up three wickets in just three overs as Sri Lanka have been reduced to 49/4 after 7.4 overs at the time of writing.

Mehidy Hasan Going Through A Slump With The Bat

Mehidy Hasan is not a regular in T20Is as the 27-year-old has just 408 runs in 33 matches, averaging 17. However, the all-rounder continues to be a great performer in ODIs and Tests. Hasan was recently appointed as ODI captain, but it seems that the responsibility has taken a hit on his batting.

In the recently concluded ODI series against Sri Lanka, the 27-year-old scored just 37 runs in three innings, including a two-ball duck. Further, he failed to shine with the ball and took just three wickets in the entire series.

Mehidy Hasan didn't had a great time as a captain as well because Sri Lanka clinched the series 2-1.
