Virat Kohli has struggled to carry his IPL 2024 form into the T20 World Cup. Despite being India's all-time top scorer in World Cups, he has only managed 75 runs from 7 innings on this World Cup, averaging less than 11.

His highest score in this World Cup is 37, and he has been dismissed for a duck twice. This World Cup is easily Kohli's worst in his career stat-wise. However, all will be forgiven and forgotten if he plays a match-winning innings in the final, which could potentially be his last T20 World Cup game.

Kohli is the trusted batter for India in World Cup finals

Virat Kohli has played in three World Cup finals during his career. Two of these were ODI World Cup finals in 2011 and 2023, while the T20 World Cup final he played was in 2014.

In the 2011 ODI World Cup final, Kohli played one of his most underrated innings. Chasing a target of 275, India lost both Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag to Malinga's fiery spell early on. Young Virat stepped in with India at 31-2 and formed a crucial partnership of 83 runs with Gautam Gambhir. Kohli scored 35 runs off 49 balls in that innings.

While Dhoni and Gambhir received most of the accolades, Kohli's innings was invaluable, contributing significantly to India's victory and their first World Cup win in 28 years.

In the 2014 T20 World Cup final in Dhaka, India faced Sri Lanka, and Virat Kohli was India's standout performer. While most Indian batters struggled, Kohli fought valiantly, scoring 77 off 58 balls. India managed to post a total of 130-4 in 20 overs, which unfortunately Sri Lanka successfully chased down.

The 2023 ODI World Cup is a memory Indians are trying to forget. In that final, Kohli scored 54 off 63 balls. When Pat Cummins dismissed him, India's chances were all but gone, as Kohli had been the team's most consistent performer with the bat throughout the tournament.

Virat Kohli has been India's talismanic batter for the past 12 years. But India has won only 1 out of the 3 World Cup finals he has played in, and Kohli has yet to win a T20 World Cup.

Considering Kohli's strong performances in all the World Cup finals he has played, and with this being his last T20 World Cup final, we can expect him to deliver a great innings against South Africa, potentially leading India to their second T20 World Cup title.
