Unbeaten teams India and South Africa will fight it out one last time in the ongoing 2024 T20 World Cup to claim the ultimate trophy in the finale scheduled to be held on June 29 at Barbados starting from 8.00 PM IST.

Both teams are coming off a sensational tournament where they beat every opponent that came their way. While the Proteas defeated Afghanistan in the semi-finals, India overpowered England to set up an exciting clash.

That being said, India haven’t faced South Africa in this tournament, as they belonged to different groups.

However, the last time India and South Africa met in the T20 World Cup was back in 2022. Let’s unravel how that game unfolded in Australia.

When India Met South Africa In 2022 T20 World Cup At Perth

India and South Africa were placed in Group 2 of the 2022 T20 World Cup and locked horns in Perth on October 30.

India won the toss and elected to bat first. However, the call backfired as openers KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma were dismissed inside the power play.

Lungi Ngidi claimed his third victim in Virat Kohli before Suryakumar Yadav’s 68 (40) runs knock steered India to a respectable 133 runs total. Notably, Surya struggled to get help from the other end as every batter after him got only single-digit scores.

Markram-Miller duo seals the deal for South Africa

The total set by India was below par. Yet, Mohammad Shami’s tight spell forced Proteas to take a cautious approach. Arshdeep removed de Kock and Rossouw to reduce SA to 24/3 in the powerplay.

However, Aiden Markram and David Miller’s resistance foiled Indian bowlers’ plans. Both batters got half-centuries, yet the game was pushed to the final over, where Bhuvneshwar Kumar was summoned to defend five runs.

However, Miller slammed a boundary off the glove and finished with yet another four towards the cover to win the contest by five wickets.
