India and South Africa have been involved in some memorable battles over the years and across the formats. The South Africa conditions have always been tough for Indian batters, but off late, India have done well at least in white-ball formats. India have started the 2023 series with a bang as well, winning the first ODI and would be looking to seal the series when the two teams go head-to-head at St. George's Park, Gqeberha.

The last time India played an ODI game at St. George's Park was in 2018, it was the fifth ODI of the six-match series and India were leading the series by a 3-1 margin coming into the 5th game. A historical series win was just around the corner, and India batted first on a pitch that was bit tricky to bat on.

A Scintillating Century by Hitman Rohit Sharma

Dhawan and Rohit stitched together a 48-run opening stand before Rabada got the better of him. The then skipper, Virat Kohli joined Rohit and the duo build a solid partnership of 105 runs. Kohli's knock though was cut short by an unfortunate run-out and soon Rahane too was run out. Shreyas Iyer then batted well and provided good support to Rohit Sharma, who looked class apart from any other batter on show.

He mixed caution with aggression beautifully and smashed a memorable century, eventually departing on 115 off 126 balls. On the back of that century, India managed to reach 274 with Lungi Ngidi picking four wickets for South Africa.

Kuldeep Proves Too Hot To Handle

In reply, South Africa started well with a 52-run opening stand but Markram was outfoxed by Bumrah and then Hardik got two big wickets of JP Duminy and AB de Villiers in quick succession to dent South African hopes.

Amla though was still at the crease and the likes of Miller and Klaasen were still there. However, the duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal who were hunting in pack at that time, just proved too hot to handle as Chahal picked two while Kuldeep ran through the Proteas batting line-up with a four-fer.

South Africa were eventually bundled out for just 201 and India registered their first ever ODI series win on South African shores, winning the fifth ODI at St. George's Park by 73 runs.
