Vikram Solanki, Director of Cricket for Gujarat Titans (GT), has expressed his enthusiasm for Shubman Gill's upcoming role as the team's captain in the 2024 Indian Premier League.

Gujarat Titans Director of Cricket anticipates new chapter under Gill's leadership

This significant change in leadership came after the Gujarat Titans' former captain, Hardik Pandya, returned to the Mumbai Indians, where he took on the captaincy role from Rohit Sharma.

In a video posted on Instagram by GT, Solanki highlighted Gill's exceptional cricketing skills and his inherent leadership qualities, which he believes will be further honed in his new position as captain.

He highlighted that Gill's brilliance and thoughtful approach to the game have been instrumental in his success, and he expects these traits to flourish even more in a leadership capacity. With the captain's responsibilities now added to his role, Solanki expressed confidence in Gill's ability to steer the team forward.

"Really excited about Shubman Gill taking over as captain, he is an excellent cricketer, his performance speaks volumes about him as a cricketer. It is really interesting for him because it's about him stepping up in the leadership role, he had a leadership role previously by the simple fact that he has a personality of a considerate cricketer," Solanki Stated.

"He wouldn't be as successful as he is today if he wouldn't, but now it's about developing his leadership skills. So he has the captain's asterisk now next to his name which will bring additional responsibilities but I am sure he is excited as we are. We are looking forward to seeing how the story unfolds. It's a new chapter for us and we are excited about it," he added.

As Gujarat Titans prepare for the upcoming IPL 2024 auction in Dubai on Tuesday, which is just a day away, the team faces the challenge of replacing their star all-rounder.

Despite the auction being smaller this year, with only eight slots available, Solanki expressed excitement about welcoming new members to the team and the important decisions that lie ahead.

Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans have retained a strong squad of players, including B. Sai Sudharsan, David Miller, Joshua Little, Kane Williamson, Matthew Wade, Mohammad Shami, Mohit Sharma, Noor Ahmad, R. Sai Kishore, Rahul Tewatia alongside Rashid Khan and Shubman Gill.

With this lineup and new leadership, the team looks forward to embarking on a fresh chapter in the upcoming season.
