New Zealand created history in Pune with a thumping win over India. They registered their first Test series win in India by winning the initial two games of this three-match series and would now be looking to script a historic whitewash at the Wankhede Stadium. However, India would be itching to make a statement by winning the last game comprehensively, just like they did three years back against the same team at the same venue.

It was the second and the final Test of the two-match Test series of New Zealand's tour of India in 2021. The first Test was a draw, but India were desperate for a win in the second Test and they delivered a strong performance. Rohit Sharma was not in the XI for that Test and Virat Kohli was leading the side. India batted first and scored 325 with Mayank Agarwal smashing a brilliant 150 on a difficult turning track. Gill and Axar Patel also came up with handy contributions with 44 and 52 respectively, as rest of the Indian batters faltered.

However, it was Ajaz Patel who stole all the limelight. The New Zealand spinner bagged all ten wickets in the innings, creating history in the city where he was born. His efforts though were undone by a poor batting performance from the Kiwis as they folded for just 62. Siraj grabbed three wickets while Axar Patel, Ashwin and Jayant Yadav picked seven wickets between them to dismantle New Zealand. In India's second innings, Mayank Agarwal displayed his class once again with 62 while Pujara, Gill and Kohli also made valuable contributions.

India gave New Zealand an almost impossible target of 540 on a track that had good help for the spinners and won the game comfortably as the Kiwis managed just 167 in the final innings. Ashwin and Jayant Yadav picked four wickets apiece and New Zealand just could not match India's class on a tough pitch at Wankhede.

India would be looking to deliver a similar performance this time around, but New Zealand are playing good positive cricket, and would be itching to avenge 2021 Test loss.
