The Nepal Premier League (NPL) just got a major boost in star power. West Indies cricket legend Shivnarine Chanderpaul has been appointed as the head coach of defending champions Janakpur Bolts.

The franchise made the big announcement on Monday morning, calling it a long-term partnership focused on building a strong cricketing culture and developing local Nepali talent.

Chanderpaul, known for his grit, patience, and unorthodox batting stance, is expected to bring a wealth of international experience and professionalism to the Bolts’ dressing room.

Janakpur Bolts to have Shivnarine Chanderpaul as mentor

Ahead of the upcoming Nepal Premier League (NPL) season, Shivnarine Chanderpaul replaces Pubudu Dassanayake, the coach who led Janakpur Bolts to the championship in the NPL’s first season.

The franchise hopes that under Chanderpaul’s leadership, the team will not only defend their title but also build a foundation for long-term success. Shivnarine Chanderpaul is not just another former player; he's a West Indian legend with more than 20,000 runs in international cricket, 11,867 of those in Tests and 8,778 in ODIs.

Throughout a career of over two decades, he established himself as one of the most reliable batsmen in international cricket.

His composure under pressure and unbending dedication made him a terror for bowlers and an inspiration to budding cricketers around the globe.

After his retirement, Chanderpaul smoothly transitioned into coaching. He has previously worked with the Jamaica Tallawahs in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and served as the head coach of the USA women’s national team.

NPL season 2 to begin in November

The second edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) will take place from November 17 to December 13, 2025, as announced by the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN).

Following the success of the inaugural season, which saw Janakpur Bolts crowned champions, the tournament will again feature eight teams.

Preparations are ongoing at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground in Kirtipur, with facility upgrades underway to host another exciting edition of Nepal’s premier T20 competition.
