In a devastating blow to Australia Women, India Women star Ellyse Perry limped off the field with a hamstring injury in the 13th match of the ICC Women's World Cup 2025.
Batting first, India scored a healthy total of 330 runs. The openers Pratika Rawal (75) and Smriti Mandhana (80) established a 155-run opening partnership, and thereafter Harleen Deol (38) and Jemimah Rodrigues (33) made significant contributions.

Meanwhile, in the chase, Australia built a solid foundation, with an 85-run opening partnership between Alyssa Healy and Phoebe Litchfield. After Phoebe’s dismissal on 40 off 74 balls, Ellyse Perry walked out to bat at no.3.
However, batting on 32 off 40 balls, Perry called the team physio out for possible trouble around her thigh. On the previous ball, she overextended on a front-foot drive and immediately signalled for medical attention.

The physio was called and after much delay, Perry walked out of the field, hiding her face with visible discomfort around her hamstring.
This incident raised alarms, especially considering her recent injury history. Earlier in the year, during a bilateral series in India, Ellyse Perry had also retired hurt due to a calf issue.
Although Australia captain Alyssa Healy had downplayed the calf concern, stating it was of little worry heading into the World Cup, Perry's latest injury adds to the growing list of fitness concerns for the veteran all-rounder.
Australia’s momentum slips after Perry’s departure
That being said, Ellyse Perry's absence left a significant gap in Australia's middle order.
While Alyssa Healy smashed a hundred, the team's momentum seemed to shift after Perry's departure. Beth Mooney and Annabel Sutherland were dismissed in quick succession on 4 and 0, respectively.
At 31 overs, Australia were 202/3 with still 129 runs needed to chase in order to beat India and extend their unbeaten run in the tournament.
