Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh hit back hard at erstwhile Pakistani cricketer Kamran Akmal following a controversial remark about current Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh.

The heated words came after India clinched a nail-biting victory over Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2024 clash in New York.

Kamran Akmal, while appearing on a panel for ARY News, made an inflammatory comment linked to Arshdeep's Sikh heritage, stating, "Kuch bhi ho sakta hai... 12 baj gaye hai."

Loaded with historical insensitivity, this remark sparked outrage and prompted Harbhajan to take to Twitter to defend his countryman and their shared cultural legacy.

Harbhajan Singh's scathing response was both a history lesson and a reprimand.

"Lakh di laanat tere Kamraan Akmal.. You should know the history of Sikhs before you open your filthy mouth. We Sikhs saved your mothers and sisters when they were abducted by invaders, the time invariably was 12 o'clock. Shame on you...Have some Gratitude," he posted.

The online spat quickly escalated, drawing attention from fans and observers around the globe.

Akmal later issued a public apology, expressing deep regret for his remarks and extending his apologies to both Harbhajan and the Sikh community worldwide.

"I deeply regret my recent comments and sincerely apologize to @harbhajan_singh and the Sikh community. My words were inappropriate and disrespectful. I have the utmost respect for Sikhs all over the world and never intended to hurt anyone. I am truly sorry,” Akmal stated.

As the dust settles, the cricket world will see if this apology turns over a new leaf in the chapters of Indo-Pak cricket diplomacy.
