In what turned out to be another chapter in South Africa's troubling tale of top-order batting at the T20 World Cup 2024, skipper Aiden Markram's struggles with the bat thickened.

During Match 21 at the Nassau County International Stadium in New York, the Proteas faced a fierce challenge from Bangladesh. Aiden Markram, in particular, found himself in hot water as he was bowled out for a mere 4 runs off 8 balls.

Taskin Ahmed demolished Markram's defense with an absolute jaffa

The South African captain walked onto the pitch under pressing circumstances, with the team already reeling at 19/2 after losing both openers, Quinton de Kock and Reeza Hendricks, early in the innings.

Much was riding on Markram to turn the tide, but his continued run of poor form saw him adding another disappointing score to his World Cup tally.

The critical moment came on the penultimate ball of the fourth over when Taskin Ahmed bowled a good-length ball that angled into the stumps.

Attempting to hit through the line, Markram was outfoxed by a hint of seam movement that beat the outside edge and clattered into the middle-stump. This left the South African contingent stunned and in a dire state at 24/4 after five overs.

This string of low scores, which included a duck against the Netherlands in the last game and a paltry 12 against Sri Lanka in their tournament opener has put Markram under the scanner

As South Africa scrambles to regain footing with David Miller and Heinrich Klaasen at the crease, all eyes are on their ability to pull the team out of the fire and stabilize an innings that's quickly going south.
