The second Test between India and New Zealand witnessed bizarre moments as fans protested at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. The Board of Control for Cricket is the richest board in the world, and it is expected that fans from all over the world or even from home are provided with world-class facilities at international venues.
However, despite the scorching heat in Pune, fans were left angered and frustrated because the venue did not provide drinking water during Day 1 of the Test match. In fact, groups of people held major protests for the lack of basic amenities.
Moreover, it has been understood that fans were forced to resort to water bottles sold at inflated prices despite being promised to get access to water to combat the conditions.

In response to this, the Maharashtra Cricket Association has stepped up and apologised to the fans for the inconvenience. In a recent interaction with the media, MCA secretary Kamlesh Pisal has assured that MCA would be focused towards providing the best of facilities and that a mistake such as this would not be repeated.
“We can only apologise to the fans for inconvenience caused. But we want to assure them, through MCA, that this won't be repeated, and everything will be taken care of,” said Pisal to reporters.
He also stated that because of the excessive heat, providing cold water was on the cards of the MCA. In reality, the water coolers were filled with cold water at the start up until they were finished as the game proceeded. Pisal also claimed that the hassle took place due to a misunderstanding as MCA was focused on re-filling the emptied tanks with ice cold water.
“Considering the scorching heat, we had decided to provide cold water. In our previous experience, the fans had complained about us providing warm water or boiling water. We, as management, thought we would provide them with cold water, so we had kept cool cages," explained Pisal.
“Once the water in cool cages finished, we tried to refill it with the same cold water, and in that process, it got delayed. We have done a recce of the entire water in stands and will make sure everything is refilled properly tonight to avoid such situations,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, at the time of writing India and New Zealand are closely engaged in a battle as the home-team trail by 143 runs.
