The Melbourne Renegades Women’s team has roped in England cricketers Davina Perrin and Issy Wong for the upcoming 2025 edition of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL). Perrin, aged 19, will be replacing Hayley Matthews after the legendary West Indies all-rounder ruled herself out of the competition citing a shoulder injury.

Issy Wong, meanwhile, will be making her return to the WBBL for the first time since turning up for Sydney Thunder back in 2021-22.

Renegades revamp squad after Hayley Matthews injury

Davina Perrin was signed up by the Melbourne Renegades Women’s team after making waves in England in this year’s Hundred 2025 season for the Northern Superchargers. In 10 matches, the 19-year-old minted 260 runs at an astonishing batting strike rate of 136.84. Averaging nearly 30 in the tournament, Perrin even punched out a century and a fifty in the process.

After signing up with the Renegades as an injury replacement for senior all-rounder Hayley Matthews, young Perrin expressed her excitement, saying that she is looking forward to her maiden WBBL stint. As quoted by the official Melbourne Renegades website, Perrin said:

“I’m buzzing to be joining the Renegades and to experience the WBBL for the first time.”

Fellow England cricketer Issy Wong has also joined the Melbourne Renegades to boost the team’s pace bowling pack. Wong previously played 13 games for the Sydney Thunder back during 2021-22 WBBL season. The speedster is also a prominent figure in England’s The Hundred and India’s WPL.

Apart from picking up eight wickets for London Spirit in Women’s The Hundred season few months ago in England, Issy Wong first carved her legacy in the WPL back in its inaugural chapter itself, when she snared 15 sticks in just 10 innings to headline Mumbai Indians’ emphatic victory.
