Despite shining in the limited-overs series against South Africa Women, West Indies Women's skipper Hayley Matthews faced a massive blow. After sustaining a shoulder injury in the first ODI against England Women, the all-rounder’s challenges have only grown deeper.

Adding to her woes, she is set to undergo surgery for the injury and is expected to bounce back stronger for the 2026 season.

Matthews To Go Under The Knife

The last ODI series against England Women comes up with a massive challenge for the West Indies Women skipper Hayley Matthews. While fielding in the first ODI, she sustained an unfortunate shoulder injury. The injury kept her out of the rest of the matches.

Despite the setback, she bounced back and shone in the ODI series against South Africa Women on home turf. But trouble still lingers for the star all-rounder. Matthews is now set to undergo surgery, hoping to bounce back stronger in the upcoming season. Adding to this, she is set to miss some big tournaments, coming up later this year.

In the recently ended ODI series against South Africa, the West Indies Women's skipper held her bat high. In three matches, he scored 104 runs and secured 4 wickets. Her standout moment came in the second ODI, where she powered a fighting half-century to keep her side in the game.

Aiming for A Stronger Return In the 2026 Season

With the upcoming T20I series against South Africa Women wrapped up, the West Indies Women face a long break in their international calendar after missing out on the ICC Women’s World Cup. Utilising the gap, Matthews opted for the surgery, aiming for a stronger bounce-back for the upcoming 2026 season.

In June 2026, the cricket World will experience some unmissable T20 thrills as England is set to host the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. West Indies Women will start their campaign against New Zealand Women on June 13.
