England Women spinner Sophie Ecclestone has been signed by Sydney Sixers for the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) 2022.

The eighth edition of the WBBL will be played in October-November and will witness the participation of prominent players all around the world.

Her addition will be a boost to the Sixers, who missed a quality spinner in their ranks in the last edition, which saw them finishing last in the points table.

Currently ranked as the world's number one T20I bowler, Ecclestone has 78 wickets in the format. Her ability to keep it tight with nagging line lengths and economical bowling has helped her become one of the most popular recruits in the T20 competitions.

In the recently concluded Women's Hundred, the skilful spinner returned with eight wickets in six matches for Manchester Originals.

In 2020, the 23-year-old had turned down a contract with the Perth Scorchers due to bubble fatigue. However, the spin wizard is delighted to be joining the Sixers squad and be a part of the WBBL 2022.

Sophie Ecclestone excited to join

“They play in my favourite colour – so that’s a great start,” said Ecclestone of the Sixers playing strip.

“I’ve been meaning to go for a few years now. I’m so excited that, this year, it’s worked out well and I can get over there.

“Obviously they have great players with the likes of [Alyssa] Healy, [Ellyse] Perry and [Ash] Gardner, so I’m really excited about going over and playing with them."
