County Championship Division Two Round-up | 12 September

The County Championship Division Two witnessed three matches being played at Hove, Lord's and Leicester. Here's a brief report on the matches, which commenced on September 12. 


Sussex vs Worcestershire

Looking at the bright sun, Sussex opted to bat first at Hove. However, they were rocked by sensational pace bowling by the Worcs bowlers.

Captain Haines, along with four other batters fell in the first 30 minutes of play, as Sussex were reeling at 23/5. The experienced seamer Joe Leach also reached the milestone of 400 First-class wickets. 

It was a belligerent partnership between Fynn Hudson-Prentice (51) and James Coles (54), which resurrected the innings of the hosts. Afterwards, Jack Carson slammed 58, which paved way for Sussex to finish on 220. 

In response, Warwickshire have dominated the proceedings, by ending the Day on 87/0, with Ed Pollock (36*) and Jake Libby (42*) at their absolute best.

Middlesex vs Glamorgan

It turned out be a good decision for the Middlesex team to field first at Lord's. The bowling unit dismissed David Lloyd (5) and Eddie Byrom (4) early. However, Shubman Gill and Sam Northeast tried well to bring Glamorgan back into the contest. 

After Toby Roland Jones cleaned Gill (22), experienced campaigner Tim Murtagh send Northeast (17) back into the hut as well. In another twist of the tale, Kiran Carlson (36) and Chris Cooke (52) displayed composure to stabilize the team. 

Afterwards, the left-arm spinner Ajaz Patel slammed 36 off 27 to propel Middlesex to a total of 214. 

In response to the total, Glamorgan got breakthrough in form of Sam Robson (10). Then, the southpaw Mark Stoneman and Stephen Eskinazi guided the team well. To everyone's Ryan Higgins secured a triple strike in the end, which now sees Middlesex at 132/4, with Stoneman (72*) at the crease.

Leicestershire vs Durham

Invited to bat first, Leicestershire rode well with the imperious form of Sol Budinger. He added a quick 74-run stand with Hassan Azad (9), who fell to Paul Coughlin. 



The talented pacer Matthew Potts soon sent Rishi Patel (5) back into the hut as well. However, the incessant rain forced the match to be abandoned for the rest of the day. Leicestershire are at 97/2, with Budinger at 63* off 66.
