Fans are extremely important in sports they add flavour and excitement. In cricket, crowd support can many times break or make teams or players, depending on circumstances.

However, in a few instances a fan has to support an individual or individuals regardless of the result, and last evening the crowd at Mumbai's Wankhede displayed similar emotions for Australia's Glenn Maxwell during Match 39 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

With maximum support for Afghanistan in the crowd, Maxwell's grit, determination, and effort managed to overturn everyone in the stadium towards him.

Known for being supportive and a well-knowledged crowd, the fans in the stadium cheered for Maxwell whenever the batter suffered from cramps and laid down on the field for treatment and otherwise.

In a now-viral clip, the fans could be heard cheering up the all-rounder with chants of 'Maxwell, Maxwell', much-like how they would for Sachin Tendulkar or Virat Kohli.

Maxwell slammed his maiden double-ton in merely 128 balls, handing Australia a three-wicket victory, and securing a place in the semi-finals after the Pat Cummins-led XI were in the doldrums at 91 for 7, chasing 293.

Speaking about his knock, the 35-year-old explained how cramps and spasms only helped the batter focus better. Maxwell recently recovered from a freak calf injury and has been having several concerns during the past year or so.
