While Team India's sensational performance against New Zealand in World Cup 2023 at the HPCA Stadium on Sunday is making headlines, it's the inventive use of the spider cam during post-match rituals that has everyone talking.

Spider cam steals the celebration spotlight as India climbs World Cup ladder

This win propelled India to the top of the World Cup 2023 points table and also ended a 20-year wait for a triumph over the BlackCaps in ICC tournaments.

India's fielding skills on the field were evident, with Shreyas Iyer's spectacular low catch to dismiss Devon Conway standing out. T Dilip, the team's fielding coach, was quick to applaud this, along with Mohammed Siraj's exceptional agility on the field and Virat Kohli's ceaseless energy.

Despite the occasional oversight, including a few dropped catches, Team India’s spirit remained high, especially considering Dharamsala's challenging HPCA Stadium outfield.

However, the magnum opus of the post-match ceremony was truly out of the ordinary. Bypassing the standard 'best fielder' announcement, Dilip ushered the squad onto the ground for a special surprise.

In an innovative gesture to players’ astonishment, the spider cam elegantly descended, revealing the 'best fielder' medal attached to it, accompanied by a photo of the recipient. Shreyas Iyer was the proud awardee, and the team erupted in joy at the innovative celebration.

Meanwhile, though the Kiwis, led by Daryl Mitchell and Rachin Ravindra's robust 159-run stand, appeared set for a total beyond 300, they were curtailed to 273, thanks in large part to Mohammed Shami's impressive five-wicket haul.

With the bat, India's chase was spearheaded by Virat Kohli's commendable 95-run knock. Essential contributions from Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja sealed the victory in just 48 overs.

The next challenge for India is a highly anticipated match against world champions England in Lucknow on Sunday, October 29.
