India's batting in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 has been about Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

While Sharma provides early impetus, Kohli plays the role of an anchor and ensures India ends up winning matches whenever given the chance to finish the game. Last evening against New Zealand, Kohli proved his worth in gold, scoring a scintillating 95 during India's four-wicket win against New Zealand chasing 274 at Dharamsala.

With accolades coming in from all over, Kohli received high praise from none other than Gautam Gambhir.

Speaking to Star Sports, Gambhir, who is known to have issues with Kohli, called the star batter one of the best finishers after his showing class against Kiwis last evening, explaining how the role of a finisher is not restricted to No.5 or 6 or 7.

Here's what Gambhir said

"There is no better finisher than Virat Kohli. A finisher is not only those who bat at No.5 or No.7 – he is a chase master."

Former Indian captain MS Dhoni is widely regarded as one of the greatest finishers in white-ball cricket, while Kohli has been celebrated as the best in the chase. Dhoni, who generally batted down the order, has remained unbeaten in most ODI chases for India.

The 34-year-old is the highest run-getter in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 with 354 runs, ahead of Indian captain Rohit Sharma (311).
